Hi My Name is...

Hi. My name is Jocelyn LaFemme but my friends call me Joc (pronounced like Joss). I am 25 years old and I work as an editor in New York City at Penguin Books. I also play bass during the evenings around town for various bands and as backup for whomever the specific club needs me to backup! Currently I live in Brooklyn, but I am hoping after a few more years of saving money I'll be able to move closer to midtown-Soho perhaps. I like to think of myself as outgoing and eclectic. I enjoy collecting tattoos, but only places where they can remain hidden while I'm at my "real" job. I love what I do in the daytime, but I thrive at night. When I'm playing my bass on stage at night it's only me and the stars...a real out of body experience. No worries, though, because after my set I'm back in the dressing room fixing the grammar of would-be authors. I just can't decide on which path to follow.
I love to travel and I'm currently in the middle of moving divisions at work so I will be in the travel writing/editing biz. I cannot wait! My first assignment takes me back to London where I did a year of study abroad. I've decided to create this blog (and the subsequent social networks-see below) to keep up with people while I'm abroad, find old friends and make new ones!
My favorite things are friends, movies and good wine (Pinot grigio, Riesling..etc.). The best night is one that combines all three. I also, of course, love to read and correct grammar, listen to music from all genres and generations (My fav is currently A Silent Protest! Check them out on myspace!). Otherwise I'm usually pretty laid back and content with ma vie!

project 3-captivation

I think in order to captivate someone for this persona project you would have to create an interesting story using the social software. So far I have created a facebook, myspace and twitter account for my fake persona, Jocelyn LaFemme. I don't really want to give Jocelyn some insane storyline so that she captivates people in the way online caroline has; however, there are some ways I could do this if I wanted to.
I think in order to create a facebook/myspace page that is captivating or contains a story you have to first establish an interesting persona that people want to follow. Once you have a lot of people interested in you it is easy to manipulate blog posts, pictures, status updates, etc. to create a story that is entertaining. You could create blog posts like online caroline does web cam postings- writing about certain things that are going on, ask for input through comments and then finally use your pictures to show the results of these consultations. If people are following your pages intensely they will notice any discrepancies in the person's daily life. If I make Jocelyn as real as possible...through friends, real life feelings and interests...then people will be captivated simply because she'll seem real.

Project Three

For project three I am going to create a persona named Jocelyn Nichole LaFemme. I would like to create a myspace, facebook, flickr and probably a twitter account for her. My goal for Jocelyn is to make her who I would like to be in about 5 years; working at a publishing house in NYC or London and basically just living a glamorous urban lifestyle and loving what she does. I'm not exactly sure if I'll keep this idea once I get started, but I definitely have the name down but I'm not sure where she'll end up and who she'll be exactly. I think it is going to be a definite learning process to see 1) how people will friend her and why, and 2) what traits I can give to her and who she will become.

Project One Reflection

I really enjoyed doing this project. At first I was hesitant because I had no idea what to do for a narrative, but once I got the idea for Albert Lee I was on a roll. I feel like I took on a lot with this project because of the two story lines in the story; however, since my story turned out to be more of a creative writing piece than simply a narrative I think the two paths are helpful. They create not only a replay effect, because you can go back and choose a different story, but also it creates forking paths too. I think this gives my story a narrative quality just in the way the actual words and parts of the story are told. Personally I like storyline two the best, but I am proud of both because I do not do creative writing. Overall, I am really happy with how all the different aspects of the story panned out and I hope everyone else enjoys them too.

Revamp

After talking to other people and listening to others in class, I feel like I want to take my mystery story one step farther. Since the Mysterious Account of Albert Lee is a mystery, I would like to maybe have different segments leading different places; a 'choose your own' ending/path kind of story. I'm not sure how to do this exactly. Perhaps through linking different sections of the blog together. You can be reading post one and choose to go either to post two or post five, and each would contain a different occurrence in the story. I'm not sure.
As for pictures, I know I want to interject them throughout the story and probably fairly often. I don't think I'll use them to segment the story per say, but more to illustrate the story. I would like to have pictures of Albert Lee's shadow, our spying adventure, maybe some spy gear, etc. As for the map I think it will follow our adventures around Morgantown. I'll probably use a mix of linking the pictures to Flickr and embedding them on my blog.

First Project-Where I Am

The other day in class we were asked to start writing our narrative for the first project. What I came up with was The Mysterious Account of Albert Lee. After writing the introduction to the Albert story I felt really confident that I could make not only a good narrative, but a fun traveling/map story as well. Looking back on my introduction of Albert Lee I am not so sure. Perhaps my creative juices just aren't flowing at the moment, but I feel like a total re haul may be in order. I would like to stick with the story of Albert because I feel I might be able to tie it in with the actual story of Albert Lee that my roommate, Amy, and I encountered. After my classes one day about week ago, Amy was supposed to pick me up. I called her when I left Stansbury and realized that she wasn't waiting for me. She was still at our apartment locked in the bathroom with Albert Lee; an orange tabby. She had found Albert sitting next to her car when she had originally left to come pick me up. We're both cat lovers, but Amy is particularly a sucker for orange cats. She had a sense of panic that Albert was going to be run over by a car and quickly scooped him up and brought him into our apartment, much to the dismay of our two cats. So, I arrived home a bit later and found her still locked in the bathroom with Albert. I joined her and we both quickly fell in love with him. Unfortunately, Albert had a collar which made me think that perhaps Albert was an outdoor cat, but maybe not Amy interjected! We called the number listed on his tag and got no answer. About an hour later we decided to try the address on the tag and upon our arrival at the house, found the door wide open. Albert seemed familiar with the house so we dropped him off inside (after yelling to see if anyone was home) and shut the door behind him. We left a message with the owner and went off on our way feeling we had done a good deed for the day. A few hours later we received a phone call from Albert's owner thanking us profusely for returning Albert and our satisfaction grew!

Ok, so although Amy and I thought this was a funny and socially rewarding, a cat story is not the greatest angle for a narrative. So I came up with the idea to have Albert be a mysterious visitor and make Amy and myself spy-like characters. It will cover about a day, or week...I'm not sure. The drama is obviously finding out who Albert is and what he is doing. I'd like it to really turn out to be a mystery/spy genre narrative, but we'll see. I'm still working on it.
